The mission of Camp Virginia Jaycee, Inc. is to provide outdoor education and recreation experience for persons with mental retardation.
Camp Jaycee is a facility where children and adults with mental retardation can participate in games, partake in new experiences, learn to appreciate the outdoors and have fun. |
Camp Virginia Jaycee is located at the end of St. Hwy 697 / Camp Jaycee Road in western Bedford County, Virginia.
Goals
To contribute to the mental and physical well-being and development of children and adults with mental retardation through an organized program.
To provide activities which develop a feeling of self confidence through accomplishments and foster a feeling of self worth.
To promote the development of interpersonal relationships and social skills which will help children and adults adjust happily to a world outside their immediate family.
To provide the opportunity for respite to family members.
Activities include: Swimming, Arts & Crafts, Sports & Recreation, Fishing & Paddleboat at the Pond, Music, Horseback Riding, Playground, and Camping & Nature.

-Sheet sets for twin beds: one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, one pillow case.
-Blankets for twin beds.

-Books for library: books appropriate for children ages 3-18

- Life jackets: coast guard approved.

- Supplies for arts and crafts: foam sheets or shapes, macaroni noodles, beads and string, paintbrushes, and plaster of paris.

- SAFETY & FIRST AID: Motorola Two-Way Radios, Band-aids, Ziploc Bags, Small Paper Cup for meds, Wheelchair w/ Thick Tires, Large Toolboxes for First Aid Kits, Blankets.
